How is Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome Treated?
Conventionally, some physicians
would say that there is no actual "treatment" for CFS. Since
they don't really know what causes it, or what metabolic, immune or infectious
mechanism is at work to cause it, there's no specific treatment pinpointed,
leaving conventional medicine somewhat at a loss for options, and treatment
more on a symptom-by-symptom basis.
Drug treatments for CFS range from
antidepressants, sleep medications, antibiotics, pain medications, amphetamine
type drugs, and immune-modulating drugs .
Other treatments include c ognitive
therapy, massage, especially craniosacral therapy or myofascial therapy,
and hydrotherapy, among others.
A full range of alternative therapies
– including various vitamin and supplement protocols – have also been
proposed as treatments.
A complete look at the full range
of conventional, alternative, mind-body, nutritional, vitamin and herbal
treatments are presented in the book Living
Well With Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, along
with guidelines on how best to develop an integrated plan for your own
recovery and wellness.
